Filming in Vancouver: Sacred Lies, Virgin River, Godfrey, and more

Juliette Lewis

This week’s round up of what’s going in Vancouver’s screen scene is divided into matters of the heart—and matters of the dark.

On the lighter side of things, there’s a feature romcom that’s wrapping up after spending a month in town.

But while that one leaves, there’s a romantic drama TV series starting work on its second season.

On the murkier side of things, a TV movie is underway about how a community tries to continue on after being shaken by the murder of a teenage girl.

And the second season of an anthology series, that began with a handless teen who escaped from a cult, is embarking upon its second season with a new storyline and cast.

So if that all sounds intriguing, read on below for what’s filming Vancouver this week.

Filming in Vancouver: G.I. Joe spin-off Snake Eyes, Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist, and Close Up

Could Henry Golding be coming to Vancouver to star in a film?

For our weekly roundup of what’s filming in Vancouver, sometimes there’s a common theme running through all the TV and film productions.

But this isn’t one of those weeks.

In fact, this week’s collection of screen productions wildly runs the gamut from a mystery-drama to a martial-arts action blockbuster to a musical fantasy dramedy TV series (now there’s something you don’t hear every day).

It’s quite the mix—but that’s the way things go when it comes to the entertainment industry.

So on that note, here’s a brief overview of what’s—and who’s—on set this week and in the weeks to come.

Filming in Vancouver: Hilary Swank, When Calls the Heart, The 100, and more

Hilary Swank will star in the TV series Away.

Some recent trends in TV series have been superheroes, witches, and—babysitters?

Yes, the formidable sitter of babies and children is getting a lot of attention in screen projects as of late, with a new Netflix movie starting production this week.

Meanwhile, three TV series start up this week.

One is a sci-fi drama starring a two-time Oscar winner and embarking upon its first season.

Another is also a sci-fi drama, but this one is the polar opposite: it’s starting in on its final season.

Completely different from those two is a romance-drama set in a Western Canadian frontier town.

And there’s also a TV movie based upon a real-life scandal.

If any of this intrigues you, read on for what’s going on in Vancouver’s screen scene this week.

What are we talking about? Why, Vancouver’s screen scene, of course.

Meanwhile, a recovering alcoholic blusters his way through the third season of a comedy TV series while a trio of witches gear up to fight for America (and no, we’re not talking about Charmed).

The cast of Beverly Hills, 90210 reunites for BH90210.

This week, two TV series call it a wrap on their latest seasons.

And both have roots in the 1990s.

One is a reboot within a reboot (how’s that for confusing) about a hit ‘90s teen soap opera while the other is a comedy-drama based on a 1990 crime novel.

In other news, a freaky new film will be coming to shoot in town next month.
