This summer, Theatre Under the Stars (TUTS) is celebrating universal themes of love, acceptance, and inclusion with its upcoming season on stage outdoors at the Malkin Bowl in Stanley Park from July 6 to August 26. Both of its sparkling musicals, The Prom and Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical, are hilarious and heartfelt Broadway comedies that celebrate the differences that make us who we are.

When Saccha Dennis, director of Theatre Under the Stars’ upcoming production of We Will Rock You, played Alice in an elementary school production of Alice in Wonderland, an audience member in the front row looking at her curiously. As a Black actor, director, and educator, she’s spent her whole life negotiating and defying expectations of what theatre should look like.

Theatre Reviews: Infectious Energy in TUTS’ Mamma Mia! and Disney’s Newsies

Theatre Under the Stars’ new season has launched, and it’s bursting with uplifting song and dance.

From now until August 17, 2019, Theatre Under the Stars (TUTS) performs Mamma Mia! and Disney’s Newsies on alternate nights at Stanley Park’s Malkin Bowl. They’re excellent productions; if you can’t choose between them, you should definitely see both.

In the heart of Stanley Park, audiences have been gathering at Malkin Bowl for 79 years in order to experience TUTS’ spirited musical theatre productions. This year’s season promises to be full of exuberance, talent, and fabulous singing and dancing.

TUTS Vancouver’s Mary Poppins Will Make You Believe in Magic

The first time I watched the movie version of Mary Poppins, I was filled with wonder as the Banks children were introduced to the infinite talents of their new nanny. What would Mary Poppins do next? How could I also enter the world that she created?

That feeling of joyful suspension of disbelief returned when I recently attended a performance of Theatre Under the Stars’ (TUTS’) Mary Poppins (TUTS runs until August 19, 2017). Overall, it was an exuberantly entertaining, talent-packed, and, above all, magical staging of this well-loved Broadway Musical.
