LGBTQ2-Inclusive Comics Coming to Vancouver Comic Arts Fest 2017

The Vancouver Comic Arts Festival—or Van CAF for short—is a really rad event. Last year when I was there I noticed that there was an especially great group of LGBTQ2 creators, who I just stumbled upon while wondering aimlessly. This year I decided to do some real research before going about which creators are LGBTQ2 and/or which ones are telling LGBTQ2 comics stories. Here’s the fruit of my labours!

Who to see at this year’s Vancouver Comic Arts Festival

This Saturday is Free Comic Book Day – the day comic book stores in cities across North America, including Vancouver, give out free, specially-created comics. And with the new Avengers movie hitting screens nation-wide this week, it seems like comic book characters are taking over the world, at least for the time being.

So it’s a good time to consider the annual Vancouver Comic Arts Festival.

VanCAF doesn’t have the budget some other comic-book-related conventions have, so don’t expect William Shatner, the original Batmobile or a light-sabre demo. But the grassroots gathering is free, fun and features a range of guests from veteran to up-and-coming comics creators, both local and from afar.

Besides a chance to see and buy some stuff, there are panels and other events planned.

Here are a few creators to watch for at this year’s festival, May 23-24.
