King Princess (aka Mikaela Strauss) returns to Vancouver.
Hey music fans! We wish we had better news but January’s a slow month. Not only that, but some of the biggest shows are already sold-out—that includes Michael Kinawuka, Leif Vollebekk, and Choir! Choir! Choir! But you can still get tickets to the shows below, although King Princess tix won’t last and Trail of Dead at the Fox is likely to be a madhouse.

Looking for some seasonal favourites, musically speaking? This month, we have festive concerts ranging from gypsy jazz to choral to folk-roots and indie-pop. Check out some of Vancouver’s December musical offerings below.
YACHT plays The Biltmore Cabaret Dec. 15.
As the year winds down, concert pickings get slim. Sure, there are plenty of holiday-themed shows—and we’ll do a separate post on those—but what’s a fan of non-seasonal music to do? Fortunately, we’ve uncovered a few non-Xmas related musical entertainments. Enjoy.
The big news for November is the return of the Black Keys. The two-piece blues band reformed after five years to release their most recent album, Let’s Rock. They’ll play Rogers Arena Nov. 24.
Another biggie this month is Sleater-Kinney, the long-running Pacific Northwest indie-rock trio (reduced to a duo after drummer Janet Weiss left, following the recording of their latest album). They’re here Nov. 21.

If we had more space, we might also highlight concerts by Death Cab for Cutie, Rick Ross and Elton John. But as it is, they’ll have to make do with a passing mention.

With all the festivals and multi-act lineups, it’s easy to lose sight of individual concerts going on in the summer. Vancouver has plenty to crow about in this regard, and here are six shows we think are worth checking out. They range from the psych-rock engine of King Gizzard to the Mad Magazine of popular music, Weird Al, to B.C. darling Carly Rae Jepsen.
