Things to Do in Vancouver This Weekend

This weekend there are some interesting ways to go back and forth in time. Watch a painting from the early 1500s come to life in the form of dance; see a Columbian crime drama set in the 1960s; witness the collapse of a 1970s commune; live the spirit of the 1980s and 90s music video boom; bring the kids to explore the sun and the moon (whose light is around 8 light-minutes and 1.25 light-seconds from us, respectively); or step forward in time to learn about improving salmon habitats.

This weekend covers a lot of bases. We’ve got rugby, dance, monster trucks, poly queer love, WW1, feminist literature and a musical about airplanes grounded in Newfoundland after September 11th attacks. For some reason, watching two (or more!) people beat each other up has long been a popular form of entertainment. Since the days of Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock (before he was a famous movie star) and now with a re-emerging popularity – perhaps, in part thanks to Glow on Netflix, wrestling is making a comeback.

Otherwise known as the Elite Canadian Championship Wrestling, the ECCW is the Pacific Northwest’s premiere indie wrestling federation – and it’s coming to the Commodore Ballroom this weekend. Yes, you read the correctly, a wrestling match in a ballroom! Get ready for one riotous night out!
