April showers indeed! Grab an umbrella and get those rainy day cherry blossom photos, because the festival has officially begun. If you forgot your rain boots, never fear, there are many things going on this weekend that are under a roof, such as a photography festival, 1930s-style yodeling theatre, nude Austrian folk dancing, a spirits festival, soccer, a cheerleading competition, and an Indigenous puppetry story.
This weekend there are some interesting ways to go back and forth in time. Watch a painting from the early 1500s come to life in the form of dance; see a Columbian crime drama set in the 1960s; witness the collapse of a 1970s commune; live the spirit of the 1980s and 90s music video boom; bring the kids to explore the sun and the moon (whose light is around 8 light-minutes and 1.25 light-seconds from us, respectively); or step forward in time to learn about improving salmon habitats.

Whether you’re looking for some hardcore feels, or you just want to enjoy some music, or you’re into jumping up and cheering for sports and trucks, this is your weekend, friend. Enjoy it.
Get your wine tasting on with a bit of cosplay; the Convention Centre is hosting both Fan Expo and the International Wine Festival this weekend. There’s also ballet, Icelandic marionettes, two plays that focus on religious experiences, soccer, a rap group from Taiwan and a local rock and metal cover band animal charity fundraiser.

It’s festival time this weekend! Dine Out Vancouver begins with special menus and events across the city, the PuSh festival is on the scene with genre-bending performances, the VSO is presenting new music, and there’s a Hot Chocolate Festival to keep you warm in between. If it happens to be a clear night on Sunday, get your chocolate to-go and look up to see a full lunar eclipse.
