Word Vancouver is Western Canada’s largest free literary festival and 2020 marks the 26th year of the festival. Held September 19th to the 27th, the Festival will bring authors and readers together to share stories, fictional accounts, poems, tall-tales, picture books and points-of-view. This has been a tough year for everyone, and Festival organizers hope by providing this extensive, free online programming that they can offer connection and inspire creativity for everyone in the community. Word Vancouver kicks off today! Tons of book-related events, performances and more

Word Vancouver is a free event running until Sept 29. Many of the events take place this coming weekend in and around the Vancouver Public Library Central Branch at 350 W. Georgia St.

Western Canada’s largest literary festival celebrates its 25th anniversary this week.

From Sept 24- Sept 29, Word Vancouver takes place at various venues throughout Vancouver, although most of the action happens Sunday, Sept 29 in and around the main branch of the Vancouver Public Library (350 West Georgia St.). The festival remains 100 percent free.

Six events to check out at this year’s free Word Vancouver festival

Interested in learning how to write and draw comics, pitch magazine editors or write that mystery you’ve had percolating in the back of your mind?

Or maybe you just want to hear some poetry, see an author read from his or her current bestseller, or check out tables full of books for the perfect reading material.

If any of the above applies, Word Vancouver has something for you.

With the latest edition, the annual festival of reading and writing is celebrating its 20th year with 100 readings, 150 authors, and 20 workshops. That’s a lot of words, so we’ve broken down the festival into six events we think are worth checking out.

Although the festival begins Sept. 23, our focus is on Sept. 27, the main festival day. All events on the 27th are free, and take place in the main branch of the Vancouver Public Library or in Library Square.

WORD Vancouver: The Free Festival of Literacy & Reading

For all the bookworms, wordsmiths, and people who still like to collect typewriters, comes a festival that celebrates literacy and reading with free workshops, author exhibits, and other hands-on activities for all ages and interests.

Word Vancouver is taking place from September 25th until September 29th at various locations around town (including the VPL, Paper Hound Bookshop, and library square) with 25 workshops, 145 authors, and 75 readings — all for free!
