This weekend we are ringing in the Lunar New Year! To celebrate I suggest you pet a lot of dogs (because it’s the Year of the Dog, and also because dogs are fun to pet), watch some colourful lion dances, and wander through some lanterns to light your way toward spring. During all the New Year festivities, you have the opportunity to widen your cultural exploration even further with Aboriginal and Jewish performing arts  – the Talking Stick Festival and Chutzpah! will set you up and inspire you.

Voting for the Vancouver Chinese Restaurant Awards is now Open

February 16th marks the start of the Year of the Dog, with those born in dog years supposedly characterized by loyalty and honesty. Chinese New Year is a time of joy, celebration, and, of course, good eating.

Fortuitously coinciding with this festive period are the 10th annual Chinese Restaurant Awards. Public voting for the Diners’ Choice Awards has just begun and will run until March 4, 2018.

Lanterns in the Garden Illuminates Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Gardens for Lunar New Year

A festival that will illuminate the night with thousands of beautiful lanterns to help celebrate the Chinese New Year is coming to Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Gardens. The festival, known as Lanterns in the Garden is an annual event with themed lanterns, fun activities, and delicious food!

The memorable spectacle will take place over three weekends in February and March, starting on Friday, February 16, 2018. You’re invited to the garden to take a trip back in time to enjoy an authentic & traditional YUAN XIAO festival.
