For the second year in a row, Vancouver will be offering a free, public New Year’s Eve celebration in the heart of downtown that concludes with a huge fireworks display at midnight.

Featuring live music, over 20 food trucks, an early family fireworks display, and lots of excitement, Concord’s New Year’s Eve celebration on December 31, 2016 is the best way to ring in 2017.

Where all the Cool Queers are Gonna Be This NYE: Up Yours 2016

If you’ve been following some of my other posts about queer parties in Vancouver, like Denim Vest and Queers and Beers, the organizers of Up Yours 2016, a queer New Year’s Eve party, will sound familiar. Up Yours 2016 is a one-time collaboration between Queers and Beers, Denim Vest, and Man Up, three rad groups doing late night queer party organizing with tons of experience. If you’ve been to events held by any of these three collectives, you know that their coming together for this NYE event is going to be epic.

Ready the tiaras, prep the noisemakers, and bring the kids – this year everyone is invited to Vancouver’s biggest outdoor New Year’s Eve party!

For the first time in over a decade, Downtown Vancouver and the Vancouver New Year’s Eve Celebration Society invites people of all ages to ring in the new year with an evening full of live music, entertainment and, of course, a yell-along countdown to 2016 complete with colourful blasts of midnight fireworks that will light up the sky and echo off the mountains.

It’s always fun to make your New Year’s Resolutions, but usually they don’t end up being very fun or lasting very long. Going to the gym gets a bit tired after the second week, and giving up the sauce never seems to stick.

That’s why, this year we’re giving you 5 Vancouver-specific resolutions that will be easy to keep and fun to do! So this year, forget about those five extra pounds that you’ll “swear you’ll lose this year”. Take some time to explore the city and expand your horizons while having a good time (hopefully)!

New Year’s Resolutions over Bagels

As New Year’s Eve approaches, like many, I have been thinking about the past year and wondering what’s ahead. I’m not one for resolutions unless they naturally present themselves, but I am a big fan of living a self-examined life, so it didn’t hurt to think about one for myself. I came up short of resolutions I could fully commit to. I do however have a pretty good idea of what Vancouver’s resolution might be: to continue working at becoming one of the greenest cities in the world.
