Vancouver gets its first whisky festival

VancouverWhiskyFest01

Brand ambassadors from Scotland and around the world are coming to Vancouver to extoll the virtues of the water of life – whisky, that is.

On Jan. 18, at Terminal City Club (837 W. Hastings St.), the First Vancouver Whisky Festival will give participants the chance to taste whisky from Scotland, Ireland, Canada, USA and Japan as well as from such untraditional whisky regions such as India and Taiwan.

Whisky lovers will be able to rub shoulders with bloggers, writers, and connoisseurs who are eager to share their knowledge and appreciation of this elixir, as well as tell us when (if ever) whisky should be spelled “whiskey.”

Tickets are $190, but include all the whisky samples (120+ whiskies) and planned events. These include master classes, chocolate and whisky pairing, food and whisky pairing, a cocktail demonstration, and guided tasting tours. There is no additional cost to sample all the whisky at the event, except for on-site store purchase of the full bottle.

Brand ambassadors include reps from Tullibardine Distillery, Amrut Distilleries, and Springbank Distillery. Guests include Davin De Kergommeaux, author of Canadian Whisky: The Portable Expert, the definitive guide to Canadian whisky; Hodie Rondeau, founder of XOXOLAT, where she presents an edible gallery of all things chocolate displaying only the finest of the world’s chocolates, specializing in Single Origin and Estate chocolates; and Jonathan Bray, founder and creator of the Scotch Whisky Advent Calendar and blogger at singlemalting.com.
