Tuesday, July 5 – The Outsiders
You might remember this movie from your 8th grade English class. In dusty 1960s Oklahoma, the rivalry between two gangs, the poor Greasers and the rich Socs, only heats up when one gang member kills a member of the other. It’s Big Drama with small perfect moments wrapped in a sweepingly romantic old-Hollywood feel: a modern-day classic for those of a certain generation. Stay gold, Ponyboy.

Tuesday, July 12 – Napolean Dynamite
This indie cult hit stars Jon Heder in his breakout performance as a listless and alienated teenager who decides to help his new friend (Efren Ramirez) win the class presidency in their small western high school, while he must deal with his bizarre family life back home. Quirky, original, even oddly inspiring – but just a whole lot of irony-steeped fun. Vote for Pedro!

Tuesday, July 19 – The Little Mermaid
Everything’s better… next to the sea! Your favourite slumber party VHS movie comes to the Stanley Park big screen for the first time – it’s the magic and the music of Disney’s charming The Little Mermaid! This is the first time a Star Wars movie has been played outdoors anywhere in Canada, so this is a big moment for Vancouver! In this invigorating mix of exciting sci-fi action, engaging new characters and a dollop of wistful childhood nostalgia. Three decades after the JEDI returned and the good guys defeated the Galactic Empire, a new threat arises…

Tuesday, August 9 – Labyrinth (David Bowie Night)
Costumes, highly encouraged! One of the weirdest movies in cinematic history, this David Bowie classic is a highly-imaginative story about a selfish 16 year old girl who is given 13 hours to solve a labyrinth and rescue her baby brother before he’s taken away by the goblin king. There will also be pre-show Bowie music videos screening to celebrate the remarkable talent of this amazing superstar.
