JFL NorthWest takes to the streets for a block party featuring food, comedy and music

Bill Burr appears at this year’s JFL NorthWest comedy festival.

JFL NorthWest is adding a block party to its 10-day comedy festival.

The block party takes place March 7-9 (Wed-Fri) from 5-10 p.m. at the Queen Elizabeth Plaza (695 Cambie St.). The outdoor party features a big screen, live music, food trucks, libations and even Victor, the Just for Laughs mascot. See below for more details.

The JFL Northwest Block Party will feature Just For Laughs stand-up comedy specials on the screen, as well as Just For Laughs GAGS (a silent comedy/hidden camera reality series). Performers include guest comedy hosts, Partick Spencer of Vancouver folk band Coldwater Road, and local singer/songwriter Adrienne with Drix Reazo on guitar.

In addition to the outdoor entertainment, the block party will offer grub courtesy of food trucks (The Reef Runner and Cheese Street Grill), complimentary beverages from Tim Hortons, and a beer garden featuring Sleeman Breweries and Hopping Mad Cider. An LED Games Tent will cater towards those whose interests extend to ping pong and foosball.

With six high-profile festival performances taking place at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre, the plaza is the natural setting for the block party. Bill Burr, Trevor Noah and Jo Koy are among the headliners playing the QET.

Comedian Rachel Feinstein is a guest at this year’s JFL NorthWest.

Taking place March 1-10, JFL NorthWest is the largest comedy festival in Western Canada. This year, the festival will host over 100 comedians and performances at 30 venues throughout the city. In addition to the plaza party, other firsts for 2018 include the Vancouver Just For Laughs Film Festival and the Vancouver Comedy Awards.
