Dave Chappelle bestie and Daily Show correspondent Neal Brennan comes to the Rio Theatre

He’s worked with such titans of comedy as Michelle Wolf, Chris Rock, Jerry Seinfeld, Trevor Noah, and Dave Chappelle.

But Emmy-nominated writer, director, and writer Neal Brennan is also a stand-up comic. He came out of the shadows with his well-received comedy special 3 Mics. And he’s bringing his new show Here We Go to The Rio Theatre (1660 E. Broadway) Aug. 16.

Brennan is currently a creative consultant and on-air correspondent on Comedy Central’s The Daily Show with Trevor Noah. But he is also in an episode of the latest series in Jerry Seinfeld’s Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee series.

Brennan also served as executive producer on Chris Rock’s 2018 standup special Chris Rock: Tamborine, and he directed fellow Daily Show Correspondent Michelle Wolf’s 2017 HBO special Michelle Wolf: Nice Lady. He also co-wrote the 2017 feature film The Female Brain alongside comic Whitney Cummings.

Prior to these activities, he was known for co-creating and co-writing the Comedy Central series Chappelle’s Show with Dave Chappelle (as well as co-writing the cult classic Half Baked).

His 3 Mics premiered on Netflix in 2017. Paste Magazine said, “It will floor you in the best way possible.” The show enjoyed a successful off-Broadway run in NYC with musician John Legend serving as producer.

In a cultmtl.com review posted about Brennan’s recent appearance in Montreal, a writer said: “Brennan’s Off-JFL show, Here We Go, isn’t a complicated hour of avant-garde comedy that you need an MFA and a protractor to understand. It is, as he told me when I interviewed him, a show about what’s wrong with him. And, while that list is long, Here We Go isn’t like listening to someone’s whiny therapy session. The stuff that’s wrong with him is kind of what’s wrong with all of us.”
