Golden Girls puppet show comes to Vancouver this Wednesday night!

Dorothy, Sophia, Rose, and Blanche are back—as puppets.

The four sharp-tongued characters from the hit show Golden Girls star in a show called Thank You For Being a Friend. There are two local performances, one at the Vogue Theatre Wednesday Feb. 13 and another (sold-out) show at Surrey Arts Centre Feb. 16. Find out more below.

The show was written by Thomas Duncan-Watt and Jonathan Rockefeller as a tribute to the ’80s sitcom. According to nowtoronto.com, in a 2016 review, “Standout performers include Liana Bdewi capturing the crotchety persona of matriarch Sophia, and, in an ingenious casting move, Jeremy Crittenden as Dorothy. Crittenden’s performance is unexpectedly understated, and both actor and puppet come closest to the original.”

The Joseph Patrick production has received accolades from the CBC (“An inventive stage show”), Mooney on Theatre (“A treat for obsessive fans”), and My Gay Toronto (“Gay comic delight. And Cheesecake!” ★★★★). (The latter review references cheesecake because some venues provide dessert with VIP seating.)

Tickets for Thank You For Being a Friend at the Vogue Theatre (918 Granville St.) are $34.50 +s/c at ticketfly.com.
