Filming in Vancouver: The Good Doctor, Supergirl, Altered Carbon, and WWE stars in the Main Event

Supergirl

There’s a lot of action on both the movie and TV series fronts.

And by action, we really mean action.

There’s a wrestling movie that’s bringing several WWE stars to Vancouver, and a superpowered woman is back in town to pack a punch once again.

While those get going, a sci-fi thriller, which features a body-switching lead character, calls it a wrap.

And things are going to get romantic on a medical drama series that’s getting back on set.

So here’s a quick look at what’s going on in Vancouver’s screen scene at the moment.

Seth Carr

A wrestling movie is underway, and details about it only emerged last week after it got started.

The Main Event, directed by Jay Karas (Ali Wong: Baby Cobra), began shooting on June 19 and will continue until August 12.

Tichina Arnold

In this Netflix family film, Seth Carr (Black Panther) plays an 11-year-old boy, who aspires to become a wrestler, finds a mask endowed with magical powers and enters a competition to become the next WWE superstar.

The Miz

The cast also includes Tichina Arnold, Ken Marino, and Adam Pally. They’ll be joined by a gang of wrestling stars such as Kofi Kingston, Sheamus, The Miz, and more.

Kofi Kingston

The film will premiere sometime in 2020.

Freddie Highmore

Also underway is the medical drama TV series The Good Doctor, which got back on set to start filming Season 3 on June 19 and production will run until March 3, 2020.

Will Yun Lee

While the show will continue to focus on medical issues, this new season is said to begin exploring the love life of the autistic Dr. Shaun Murphy (Freddie Highmore) as he starts dating.

Hill Harper

The cast includes Antonia Thomas, Paige Spara, Tamlyn Tomita, Hill Harper, Nicholas Gonzalez, Will Yun Lee, Richard Schiff, Christina Chang, and Fiona Gubelmann.

Meanwhile, sci-fi series Altered Carbon finishes up shooting eight episodes for Season 2 on Tuesday (June 25), having begun back on February 4.

Anthony Mackie

Based on the novel by Richard K. Morgan and created by screenwriter Laeta Kalogridis (Terminator Genisys), this series is set in the metropolis of Bay City in the year 2384 and in a world where a person’s consciousness can be uploaded into new bodies.

Simone Missick

The storyline focuses on Takeshi Kovacs, who was played in the first season by Joel Kinnaman (Suicide Squad) but who assumes a new body, portrayed by Anthony Mackie (Avengers: Endgame) in Season 2.

James Saito

The cast also includes Chris Conner, Renée Elise Goldsberry, Simone Missick, Dina Shihabi, Toren Liebrecht, and James Saito.

Melissa Benoist

Supergirl is back in action with Season 5 on Thursday (June 27) and will keep going until April 14, 2020.

In Season 4, Supergirl, played by Melissa Benoist, battled the ever-villainous Lex Luthor (Jon Cryer) and Season 5 is being touted to include a new villain, Leviathan, and the Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover event.

Mehcad Brooks and Katie McGrath

The cast also includes Mehcad Brooks, Chyler Leigh, David Harewood, Katie McGrath, and more.

Fans can look forward to the fall when Season 5 of Supergirl will premiere on October 6, alongside the new Vancouver-shot Arrowverse series Batwoman, not to mention numerous other locally shot TV series no doubt.

Chyler Leigh

There’s clearly lots to look forward to, and we’ll have more on what’s shooting in Vancouver in the meantime.
