Filming in Vancouver: Rachael Leigh Cook, Damon Wayans Jr., Jennifer Connelly, and more

This week’s roundup of what’s filming in Vancouver, there’s a romcom feature that’s getting on set.

And so is a dystopian sci-fi thriller that’s embarking upon its second season, even though its first season hasn’t premiered yet.

And a suspense drama TV series that’s shooting its pilot is set to wrap just as its full cast has been revealed.

Damon Wayans Jr.

First up, the Netflix movie Love, Guaranteed starts filming today (October 21) and will continue until November 19.

In this rom-com directed by Mark Steven Johnson (Finding Steve McQueen), Rachael Leigh Cook (She’s All That) stars as a hard-working lawyer who has taken on so many pro-bono cases that she has to do something to save her small law firm.

She does so by reluctantly taking on a high-paying, high-profile case from a client, played by Damon Wayans Jr., (Happy Together) who wants to use a dating website that guarantees users will find love. 

As a media storm erupts around them, their feelings for each other also develop—which could threaten the case.

Heather Graham

They’ll be joined by Heather Graham (Californication) who will play the CEO of a dating website.

Graham has been in town shooting other TV projects, including The Hypnotist’s Love Story and The Stand

The rest of the cast is yet to be revealed, as is the release date.

Daveed Diggs

Elsewhere in the city, another TV series—of a very different kind—is also getting underway.

Snowpiercer begins shooting Season 2 today (October 21) to March 20.

This dystopian sci-fi thriller, based on a 1983 French graphic novel and South Korean filmmaker Bong Joon-ho’s 2013 cinematic adaptation, follows the last survivors of humanity who live aboard a massive train that perpetually circles the globe after the Earth is overtaken by a new Ice Age.

As the passengers are divided between cars in a class system, the series is set to address issues such as social injustice, classism, politics, and survival.

Annalise Basso

The cast, headed up by Daveed Diggs and Jennifer Connelly, includes Mickey Sumner, Annalise Basso, Sasha Frolova, Alison Wright, Susan Park, Roberto Urbina, Iddo Goldberg, and more.

The series is slated to be released in the second quarter of 2020.

Fivel Stewart

Meanwhile, Close Up has been filming its hourlong TV pilot since October 7 and will call it a wrap on Thursday (October 24).

This suspense drama follows Centerville high school student Rachel Guyer who sets out to expose the truth about her suburban hometown.

Anthony Keyvan

The cast was recently revealed, with Fivel Stewart (Atypical) in the lead role and Anthony Keyvan, Karin Konoval, Millicent Simmonds, Yaani King Mondschein, Sean Blakemore, Jennifer Spence, Megan Charpentier, Alexander Grant, and Van Crosby among the series regulars.

But we’ll have to wait to see if it gets greenlit to become a TV series.
