The winner of six 2017 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Dear Evan Hansen is one of the biggest Broadway hits of the decade. In February, Broadway Across Canada’s touring production comes to Queen Elizabeth Theatre for one week (Feb. 25-March 1). Tickets are on sale now. Find out more about the show, called “one of the most remarkable… in musical theatre history” (Peter Marks, Washington Post), below.

Dear Evan Hansen features a book by Tony Award-winner Steven Levenson, a score by Grammy, Tony, and Academy Award winners Benj Pasek and Justin Paul (La La Land, The Greatest Showman), and direction by four-time Tony Award nominee Michael Greif (Rent, Next to Normal).

In this contemporary musical, a lonely teenager inadvertently becomes a social media sensation and a symbol of kindness. Evan Hansen is printing out one of the daily pep-talk letters to himself that his therapist has advised him to write when another loner, Connor Murphy, snatches it up. But when Connor kills himself, his family finds Evan’s letter and assume it was written by Connor. In their grief they reach out to Evan, hoping he can shed some light on why their son had become so remote and unhappy.

Dear Evan Hansen opened at the Music Box Theatre to rave reviews in December 2016. There, it broke all box office records and struck a chord with audiences and critics alike, including New York Times critic Jesse Green. In his May 2019 re-review of the show, Green declared it “more and more ingenious with each viewing. It is more hopeful than ever.”

The Grammy Award-winning Original Broadway Cast Recording of Dear Evan Hansen debuted on the Billboard 200 at #8 – the highest charting debut position for an original cast album since 1961. A deluxe version of the cast recording, including six bonus tracks and a pop cover from Katy Perry of “Waving Through a Window,” is also available.

In addition to six 2017 Tony awards and a 2018 Grammy Award, Dear Evan Hansen has won numerous other awards, including the 2017 Drama League Award for Outstanding Musical Production and for the off-Broadway production, two Obie Awards, a Drama Desk Award, and two Outer Critics Circle Awards and two Helen Hayes Awards.

Dear Evan Hansen is part of the Broadway Across Canada 19/20 Vancouver Season.
