The Oscars is the biggest award show for the movie industry, so it’s fitting that Vancouver’s iconic Rio Theatre is hosting a big watching party to celebrate!

Where’s the fun in watching an award show by yourself on your couch? Get into the spirit of the Academy Awards at the Oscars Screening Party being held on Sunday, February 9 starting at 3pm.

The Rio Theatre is located on Broadway and Commercial and was first built in 1938. It’s an iconic Vancouver establishment that regularly hosts live entertainment and movie screenings. Plus – they have some of the most delicious popcorn served in a theatre!

This annual party is a big draw and fills up fast. And, if you think watching 3-4 hours of celebrities accepting awards doesn’t sound that entertaining – don’t worry, this party has some extra surprises!

Grab a huge bucket of buttery popcorn and enjoy movie trivia, a mini-Oscar contest, as well as prizes for Best Dressed, Best Acceptance Speech, and more!

Plus, you can pull out your best outfit that you’ve been saving since that wedding last summer and really get into the spirit of things on the Rio Theatre red carpet. There will even be prizes for those who make the best effort on their entrance.

Doors to the Rio open for the event at 3:00 pm on Sunday, February 9, with red carpet coverage starting at 3:30 pm. The Oscars themselves start at 5:00 pm.

Tickets to the Rio Theatre’s Oscars Party are $13 in advance and $15 at the door. But, you’re advised to buy these tickets ahead of time if you really want to join as this event sells out every year!

Best of all, if you don’t get your fill of movies, you can stick around for a screening of the critically panned “Cats” at 9:00 pm. This is one movie that is guaranteed to never get an Oscar!

The Rio Theatre is conveniently located steps away from the Commercial Drive/ Broadway Skytrain Station. There is also tons of free parking right out front on both sides of Broadway plus right next to a major transit station.
