Guest Member Interview: Playland at the PNE

Playland at the PNE joins us to chat about all-things Slayland: Night of a Thousand Screams, and the ways they’re set up to keep things safe and spooky for the whole family this Halloween Season.

What sets you apart from other Vancouver attractions?

We are Vancouver’s only amusement park. So Slayland is the only place where you can ride a roller coaster and celebrate Halloween with our haunted walk through experience and creepy décor throughout the park. Playland has become synonymous with Halloween in the lower mainland for many years. With COVID, we knew that we couldn’t do the traditional event, but wanted to continue to be the place where people from across the region could celebrate in a safe way. Slayland isn’t our traditional Fright Nights event, but it captures the spirit, fun and scares of Fright Nights in a way that made sense during this time.

What’s new about the PNE this Halloween season?

We have a horror-themed outdoor walk-thru experience that pays its respects to your favourite haunts of the past. You can also get pumpkin spice mini donuts and special Halloween-themed candy apples.

What do you want locals to know about your business?

Playland is operated by the Pacific National Exhibition (the PNE). The PNE is a 110 year old non-profit organization. The PNE is not eligible for the Wage Subsidy Program or any other funding as it is owned by the City of Vancouver, so it has been hit very hard by the pandemic.

Are there any new access policies that you have put into place that guests/customers should be aware of before visiting you?

Face coverings are required in all queue lines and on rides. Masks are included with admission, while quantities last. Tickets must be purchased for a specific night, so remember to purchase your tickets in advance!

Capacity has been reduced by 75% vs a usual Fright Nights evening. Guests can go through the haunted walk-thru experience in a max group size of six.

Anything not covered by the above questions you would like us to highlight?

For those that are looking for a more family-friendly experience, we have our Taste of the PNE Drive Thru: Tricks & Treats Edition from October 29 to 31. This experience will include live spooky characters, Halloween décor, and safe trick-or-treating for the little princesses and goblins! Tickets are selling fast for this one, so book yours today!
