Shangri-La Hotel to Open a New Italian-Chinese Restaurant

This summer, the award-winning five-star Shangri-La Hotel, Vancouver will re-open with Miantiao, an exciting new restaurant in partnership with Kitchen Table Group.

Miantiao, the Mandarin word for noodle, will combine Italian and Chinese cuisine onto one menu with a thoughtful offering of traditional cookery served with delicious and exciting twists.  Showcasing the very best of Italian, Chinese and Canadian ingredients, with no rules limiting the creativity of the talented culinary team, guests can be prepared for a unique, stimulating and enticing journey.

Guests can expect unparalleled pasta fresca, a twist on the famous traditional Peking Duck, a cornucopia of the freshest seafood and interesting interpretations of cornerstone dishes from Italian and Chinese cuisine. Miantiao’s menu also includes an inspired cocktail offering and an exceptional wine program. Complemented with a stylish and comfortable room, the understated, yet elevated service will introduce guests to a truly unique Vancouver dining experience.

The creative cross-cultural exploration will be led by Kitchen Table Culinary Director Alex Tung, who brings a thoughtful, technique-driven approach to cooking honed in some of the world’s most respected kitchens while working alongside renowned chefs such as Jean-Georges Vongerichten, Daniel Boulud and Christian Delouvrier. Raised in a Chinese household, Tung also travelled extensively throughout the Mediterranean in his former role as a brand ambassador for an artisanal Italian pasta and olive-oil producer.

Joining Tung at the helm will be Executive Chef Tret Jordan (Loden Hotel, Wentworth Hospitality) and Chef de Cuisine Justin Lee (Superflux, Crowbar). The Miantiao front-of-house team will be led by General Manager Hao-Yang Wang (Farmer’s Apprentice, Grapes & Soda, West), Bar Manager Gianluigi (Luigi) Bosco (Lombardi, Shangri-La Vancouver) and Wine Director David Steele (South by Southwest Wine Imports, Shangri-La Vancouver).

Further details on Miantiao, including food and drink menus — and how guests can reserve — will be released in the coming weeks. For more information on Miantiao or to stay up to date on all the latest developments, go to miantiaorestaurant.com.
