Vancouver International Mountain Film Festival is In-Person and Online Starting February 25

The Vancouver International Mountain Film Festival (VIMFF) has been bringing acclaimed outdoor films from around the world to Vancouver each February since 1998. This year they are celebrating their 25th anniversary with both in-person and online events. We’ve got all the details on how to watch, plus our picks for must-see films.

 

Attend In-Person

Between February 25 and March 6 the festival is hosting 20 different in-person events including film screenings, panel discussions, and workshops at venues across the Vancouver area. Check out the In-Person Show schedule for full listings.

 

Attend Online

The online version of this year’s VIMFF runs from February 25 to March 27 and includes over 50 films. You can purchase tickets to feature films or to shows that include groups of films organized around themes like mountain culture, rock climbing, Canadian filmmakers, and more. Beautiful BC Show

Locals won’t want to miss the Beautiful BC Show, live March 1 at the Kay Meek Arts Centre in West Vancouver or streaming online between February 25 and March 27. The event includes five different outdoor films with a BC focus. Mi’ma’omakw: People of the Salmon about the removal of fish farms in the Broughton Archipelago will have its world premiere at the show.

Canadian Environmental Show

The films at the Canadian Environmental Show hope to spur you into action. The show’s films cover topics including the interconnection between salmon and forests, the battle to protect old-growth forests, and the complicated relationship between wolves and humans. The show is live on March 2 at the Kay Meek Arts Centre in West Vancouver and streams online between February 25 and March 27.

Colour the Trails Show

The Colour the Trails Show celebrates diversity and inclusion in the outdoor community by showcasing three films featuring BIPOC outdoor adventurers and filmmakers. The show also includes a presentation by Larissa Crawford, an Indigenous and anti-racism researcher with Jamaican and Métis ancestry. Attend in-person on March 2 at the Rio Theatre in Vancouver, or online between February 25 and March 27.

After Antarctica

After Antarctica is a feature-length documentary film that follows adventurer Will Steger on numerous expeditions to both poles through the decades. See the film in-person at the Presentation House Theatre in North Vancouver on February 27 or stream it online between February 25 and March 2.

Mind vs. Mountain Show

The mental health benefits of outdoor adventure are the focus of the Mind vs. Mountain Show. The program includes three short films and a special presentation from Mike Schauch who will share stories from his mountaineering expeditions close to home in BC’s coastal mountains as well as in the Himalayas. Attend in-person at the Centennial Theatre in North Vancouver on February 27.
