Want to work out for free while enjoying the sunshine? Many Vancouver area parks have outdoor fitness equipment that will help your strength, cardio, flexibility, and balance.


Second Beach in Stanley Park, Vancouver

The playground at Stanley Park’s Second Beach is popular with kids. But adults who want a workout can head to the calisthenics equipment nearby. The metal structure has a pull-up bar, rings, and a trapeze bar.

Brockton Oval in Stanley Park, Vancouver

This work-out area is tucked behind the fieldhouse at Brockton Oval in Stanley Park. It has pull-up bars, angled monkey bars, parallel bars, and a sit-up board.

Barclay Heritage Square, Vancouver

New in 2020, this tiny West End park has a compact outdoor fitness area with lots of bars for pull-ups and dips and an inclined sit-up bench.

The exercise equipment in the northwest corner of the park is part of a seniors’ wellness circuit but it’s great for anyone looking for an outdoor workout. It includes 13 separate stations including a stair stepper, squat press, balance steps, and more.

Carnarvon Park, Vancouver

Carnarvon Park has a fitness circuit sandwiched between playing fields and the elementary school. It has monkey bars, chin-up bars, and agility obstacles.

Head to the north end of Kits beach to do a body-weight workout on the pull-bar, rings, and trapeze bar. You can find them next to the basketball court.

This large park has a newer fitness area in the centre, complete with diagrams showing possible body weight and balance exercises. There is also an ellipitical machine.

Fraserview Park, Vancouver

The park features a walking and jogging trail around the perimeter with fitness stations at regular intervals, perfect for circuit training.

Empire Field at Hastings Park, Vancouver

The parkour zone at Empire Field in Hastings Park is a great place for an outdoor workout. Work out in the shadow of the wooden roller coaster on several pieces of cardio equipment and lots of pull-up bars. There are ping pong tables too.

Central Park, Burnaby

Burnaby’s large Central Park is home to a fitness circuit on the 2.5-kilometre-long Trail of Hope. Twelve different stations provide a mix of cardio, balance, strength, and flexibility training.

Fraser Foreshore Park, Burnaby

The fitness equipment in this park is separated into four areas spread out along the walking path that parallels the river. Each area has three different stations.

Cameron Park, Burnaby

This Lougheed Town Centre park has an outdoor fitness area specificially designed for seniors. It includes twelve pieces of fitness equipment and is located next to the community centre.

Queen’s Park, New Westminster

New Westminster’s Queens Park has a fitness circuit with ten different stations. Find it in the southeast corner of the park near the Millenium Trail.

Old Schoolhouse Park, New Westminster

Make your way around the sports field to visit six different outdoor fitness stations at this park in New Westminster’s Queensboro neighbourhood.
