Vancouver is known for its annual Pride Parade, this year taking place on August 6, 2023. The diverse and incredibly vibrant parade is reflective of the richness of the city’s 2SLGBTQAI+ communities. Throughout the year, these communities hold multiple events for fostering connection, celebrating individual and collective talent, and honouring past, present, and future.

Here are 10 2SLGBTQAI+ events that are happening in Vancouver over the course of the year:

Vancouver Pride Parade

Initially an event that was intended to take up space and be visible and proud, the Vancouver Pride Parade has seen considerable evolution. Now in its 45th year, the parade is continually working to reflect the diversity of 2SLGBTQAI+ communities and engaging in decolonization and inclusion of marginalized groups. This year’s Parade, taking place April 6, 2023, is the culmination of Pride Week, which is usually jam packed with events. Last year, there was an Aces and Aros evening, in addition to a Black-centric street party. On the big day, the Parade, which involves over 100 local community groups, non-profits, and companies, is a lively, joyous affair, with a route that starts on Robson Street and eventually ends at Sunset Beach. Bring sunscreen and lots of good cheer.

Last year’s kick-off event was a Unicorn Disco Party, with other events centred on other key initiatives and days in February, such as Black History Month (Black Queer Poetry Slam) and Family Day (Chosen Family Day). Expect a similar range of events next winter to keep everyone connected and buoyant during colder times.

QAF is transdisciplinary and reflects PiA’s commitment to ground-breaking, risk-taking, and community-building initiatives. The breadth of QAF’s is exciting, including visual arts, theatre, literature, music, and dance, in addition to art talks, panels, screenings, and workshops.
