Vancouver is already working to be one of the greenest cities in the world, but this weekend it’s going to get even greener! St. Patrick’s Day is quickly approaching on Friday, March 17, and there are plenty of chances to celebrate the Irish holiday with a little jig or a glass of green beer in Vancouver.

While there will be no St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Vancouver this year, are still plenty of festivities happening around town. Whether you’re after a green beer, a perfectly poured Guinness, or some Irish Dancing, there’s something for everyone this St. Patrick’s Day weekend in Vancouver.

Are you ready to let down your hair, kick up your heels and get your jig on at CelticFest Vancouver‘s hottest dance party (complete with fiddle, mandolin and just maybe some bagpipes)?

On Saturday, March 16 (St. Patrick’s Day eve), downtown’s Vancouver FanClub will be transformed into a traditional ceilidh.  Hard to pronounce but tons of fun, a ceilidh is a kind of Celtic dance party.  Expect an all-star lineup of contemporary and traditional musicians on stage, plus a room full of fellow dancers breaking into jigs, reels and polkas. There may just be a few pints of Guinness and some whiskey involved, too.

Get ready to green it up, folks. The Vancouver Saint Patrick’s Day Parade 2013 will (sham)rock downtown Vancouver Sunday, March 17.

Vancouver is good at celebrating St. Patrick’s Day. We’ve got CelticFest – nine straight days of Celtic food and drink, music and dancing from March 9 to 17.  Then there’s the ultimate shake-your-shamrocks St. Patrick’s Day party at the Blarney Stone in historic Gastown on March 17.

But the biggest event by far is the St. Patrick’s Day Parade which draws a crowd of 350,000+ spectators and features 2,000 participants, including Celtic and Irish dancers, award-winning pipe and drum bands, acrobats, stilt walkers, antique vehicles, the Vancouver police motorcycle drill team, and more.

It’s time to wear your green with pride.

CelticFest Vancouver, the annual celebration of Celtic culture, is rolling into town March 9-March 17.  While lots of cities have a St. Patrick’s Day Parade, Vancouver offers nine straight days of Celtic food and drink, music and dancing and more.

All told, CelticFest embraces 70 events at venues all across the city, from tastings at Irish pubs, to traditional Ceilidhs with folk music and dancing to all-out street parties.

Here are five can’t-miss happenings for lovers of the Emerald Isle:

Celts on the CreekCelticFest kicks off with this free outdoor party at the Village on False Creek (formerly Olympic Village).  Stop by the plaza for a full day of heel-kickin’  Celtic music – both traditional and rock ‘n’ roll varieties – plus food and family fun.  March 9, noon-5 p.m.; Village Plaza; free.  Continue reading:

Feeling Green? CelticFest Returns, March 10-18

Vancouver is home to some 250,000 people of proud Irish descent.  So when St. Paddy’s Day rolls around, there’s more than just a parade.  There’s a full-blown festival:  an entire week of music, dance, parties and Celtic spirit.

The eighth annual CelticFest Vancouver kicks off on March 10 with a day-long party in the the waterfront Village on False Creek (formerly Olympic Village).  (Editor’s Note: CelticFest represents the 7 Celtic nations, not just Ireland).  Expect plenty of fiddling and dancing, Celtic food and free family fun.
