It’s that time of year again, Vancouverites: spring! One of my favourite things about spring is getting outside on my bike again. I know some of us are hard-core bikers that cycle right through the long rainy winter—and this year, a surprising amount of snow—but I consider myself more of a fair weather biker and usually don’t get my bike outside until the sun is shining more often and the temperature warms up a bit.

Music will fill the atrium at Woodward’s for the inaugural Keys to the Streets: Woodward’s Summer Jam Session on Monday, July 11. From 6 – 8 pm, an incredible line-up of local musical artists will gather to tickle the ivories and raise their voices in support of Keys to the Streets, a three-year old program that places painted pianos on the streets of Vancouver for everyone to encourage play over the summer.

Chirp…! The Perch Program Wraps Up, Leaves 3 Year-Round Perches

From giant Connect Four to impromptu picnics, the possibilities are endless at a Perch. Everyone is welcome, and tables, chairs, and activities are free to use!

The amazing thing about being labelled the “loneliest” or “no-fun” city is that we have the opportunity to come up with new and creative ideas to strengthen our communities.

There are many placemaking initiatives around Vancouver transforming “spaces” into “places” of connection. One initiative taking place right in the heart of downtown Vancouver is The Perch.
