Does the idea of a sunset concert in an elegant 15th-century-style Chinese garden sound like your cup of tea?

Then Enchanted Evenings at Vancouver’s Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden may be just the thing for you. Each summer for the last 22 years, the little walled garden in the heart of Chinatown has opened its gates on select nights to music fans. Groups, ranging from classical piano ensembles to hot jazz bands, perform al fresco in the garden, while guests enjoy the feng shui and groove to the tunes.

Vancouver’s Only Live Music Series in a 15th-Century-Style Chinese Garden is Back

It might be one of the most unique settings for live music in Vancouver.

Each summer for the last 21 years, the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden has opened its doors to musicians and music fans for the Enchanted Evenings series.  Groups, ranging from classical piano ensembles to hot jazz bands, perform al fresco in the 15th-century-style garden in the heart of Chinatown.  This year’s series runs July 11-Aug. 7, with weekly performances.

Chinatown’s landmark Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden is a gorgeous venue for outdoor summer concerts: when you’re there—the starry lights twinkling, the music pouring over you—it feels like you’re a world away from the city. It’s magical.

Every summer, in July and August, the Chinese Garden hosts Enchanted Evenings on Friday nights, a series of outdoor world music concerts performed at the Garden’s exquisite outdoor and indoor spaces.

One of Vancouver’s most popular summer concert series is the Enchanted Evenings concert series at Chinatown’s exquisite Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden.

Over the course of nine Friday nights, Enchanted Evenings brings a varied, multicultural selection of artists to Sun Yat-Sen Garden’s indoor and outdoor spaces. For 2011—the Garden’s 25th anniversary—performances range from the hard-driving, African rhythms of Pepe Danza and Jacky Essombe to the trademark blues of Vancouver’s own Jim Byrnes.

Sun Yat-Sen Garden 2.0: Chinatown’s New Cultural Hub

Chinatown’s Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Garden is a well known and well loved Vancouver fixture.  Nearing its 25th birthday, the classical garden was built by 53 master Chinese craftsmen at a cost of more than $6 million in anticipation of Expo ’86.  Today, it’s koi ponds, stone walkways and intricate chambers are one of the city’s most popular attractions, offering an idyllic retreat from the bustle of downtown.
