When it comes to online shopping for homemade, vintage and offbeat goodies Etsy has the internet market cornered.
Part virtual craft fair, part uber-searchable catalogue, Etsy the internet home to artists, crafters, collectors and artisans around the globe, including Canada.
Founded in 2005 and calls Brooklyn, NY home. Etsy has over 1 million active shops, 26 million items listed and had $1.35 billion in sales in 2013. If you search for ‘Made in Canada’, Etsy says there are 17,072 items labelled such. Small batch crafts, it seems, are a big deal.
On September 27, Etsy vendors from the Vancouver area will go offline at the Etsy: Made in Canada pop-up. The event takes place at Robson Square from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. The pop-up marketplace is part of a cross-Canada celebration of the Canuck Etsy community. Similar markets are popping up in 23 cities from Quebec to B.C. More than 65 vendors are selling everything from honey to jewellery to kids clothes at the Robson Square ice skating rink September 27.
