Ah, the lowly falafel. Tiny ball of chick peas and/or fava beans. Dirt cheap. Crammed into a pita and eaten on the run. How I love thee.
There is, without question, an art to a great falafel. Many attempt it, few get it right. Prepare it wrong and you end up with a gritty, dry, deep-fried hunk of plaster. Then there’s the question of seasoning: Just how much parsley and cumin and coriander? And, of course, the toppings: How many otherwise decent falafels have been ruined by a tide of inferior tzatziki, an excess of hot sauce or – worse still – a dollop of ranch dressing?
It’s not easy to find a good falafel in Vancouver, but I’m convinced it is possible. So I’d like to hear from you:
