The lower slopes of the North Shore mountains have an incredible network of interconnected trails that are perfect for exploring. The forested paths and rushing rivers are a great destination for the rainy and misty spring days of March. There are so many options that it can be hard to choose. See some of the highlights on this hike that uses several trails to make a loop that includes the deep canyons of the Seymour River and Lynn Creek.

September’s Vancouver Hike of the Month: Mount Strachan

A curious whiskey jack on top of Mount Strachan. Please don’t feed them as it’s not good for their diet. (And they’ll come pose for you even without food.)

The hike to Mount Strachan in Cypress Provincial Park is a bit of a hidden gem. The open summit has great views of Howe Sound and the Lions. And in September, the alpine meadows shift from green to golden orange. There’s also an interesting Cold War-era plane crash to check out along the way. The rocky trail to the summit is moderately challenging, and often poorly marked, so it’s not a hike for beginners.

Be Prepared. Long recognized as the mantra for the Boy Scouts, these two simple words have come to represent the legendary spirit of the scouting movement. Fortunately for Vancouverites, we have the opportunity to honour Lord Robert Baden-Powell, the Founder of Scouting, by tackling the wonderous Baden-Powell (BP) Trail located on Vancouver’s North Shore. Connecting Horseshoe Bay to Deep Cove, winding over 40 km through fantastic, rugged coastal rain forest this scenic trail offers some of the best hiking in the region.
