Brutal, 800-Year-Old Warlord Genghis Khan Comes to Vancouver

He terrified the populations of Europe and Asia like no other conquerer in history with his brutal military campaigns and bloody massacres.  And now he’s coming to Vancouver.

Genghis Khan, the great Mongol warlord who ruled much of the known world some 800 years ago, is the subject of a major exhibition at this year’s PNE fair in Vancouver.

Already shown worldwide to millions of visitors, the exhibition features hundreds of Mongolian weapons and artifacts from Khan’s era, including rare documents, clothing, jewelry and – of course – plenty of deadly swords and spears.

Top 4 Summer Fests in Vancouver: Celebration Season Has Begun!

During the winter and spring, the weather in Vancouver can be just a tiny bit overcast. (We are a coastal rainforest, after all.) But come June, the clouds part, the temperature rises and the locals are ready to party.

New at the PNE: Deep-fried Pop-Tarts

It seems like every year, a new novelty food is introduced at the PNE, Vancouver’s annual 17-day summer fair.  Last year, if I remember right, there were the deep-fried Oreos.  Before that came deep-fried Twinkies and even deep-fried Coke (I’m not even sure how that’s physically possible).

Well, this year is no exception.  And I hope you’re not counting calories because once again this year’s culinary darling is in the deep-fried category.   New at the PNE this August, from the twisted imagination of one serious junk food addict, is the deep-fried Pop-Tart.  Continue reading:
