Filming in Vancouver: Christmas Chronicles 2 starts, The Twilight Zone and Snowpiercer to come

Christmas Chronicles

Wait, is it Christmas already?

Breathe easy—it’s still a few months away so you still have time for holiday preparations.

But Vancouver’s screen scene is getting into seasonal spirit in a variety of ways and for a variety of occasions.

Fit for the creepiness of the Halloween season, a classic anthology series that explores what-ifs, alternate realities, and the inexplicable is gearing up to shoot its second season.

Also back for a second season is a dystopian thriller about humans surviving on a train after the world freezes over.

And although it’s not even Halloween yet, there’s a sequel to a smash-hit Christmas movie that will turn local streets into holiday time.

Here’s a quick look at what’s shooting this week in Vancouver and in the weeks to come.

Jessica Biel headlines the new TV series Limetown.

Okay, kids, so we’ve got a ton of stuff to tell you about in this week’s roundup of what’s happening in Vancouver’s screen scene.

So much so, in fact, that we’re going to try and do it as efficiently as possible, otherwise you’ll be sitting here reading this column forever.

In this mix, there are two feature films, a number of TV series calling it a wrap, and a whole slew of TV pilots getting underway.

With that said, let’s get to it, shall we?

Some unconventional comedies and some—er—spaciness fill up this week’s rundown of what’s shooting in Vancouver.

A bunch of R-rated good boys are about to call it a wrap while the world’s first poly-romcom gets back on set.

There’s also a potential new sci-fi series being shot as a pilot, while a science series that explores the outer reaches of the universe is getting underway.

Get Around Like a Local – 6 Places in Vancouver Worth Taking Public Transit To

One of my favourite things about living in Vancouver is how you can get anywhere in the city, and to some great day trip places, via public transit. There isn’t really any need to drive anywhere. Which is just as well because driving in any city can be a bit of a pain!

I’ve been taking Vancouver’s public transit all my life and I’ve got the TransLink routes locked down. While I’m always a firm believer of walking everywhere, sometimes you need to hop on the train. Here is a quick recap of the convenient and accessible transit options* and six of my favourite attractions worth taking them to.

Filming in Vancouver: Jason Momoa, Seth Rogen, Child’s Play, Chesapeake Shores, and more

Aquaman star Jason Momoa is coming to Vancouver to head up a new TV series.

While this week’s roundup of what’s shooting in Vancouver has a recurring theme of projects revolving around child characters, they may not be what you expect at all.

To wit, there’s a sci-fi babysitting TV series, a horror remake, and an R-rated comedy (yes, an R-rated film about kids!).

But there are lot of other things in the mix, including a new sci-fi TV series with a rising action star, a potential new TV series about warrior witches, and some productions that recently wrapped nearby in B.C.

Here’s a look at what’s been coming and going from Vancouver’s screen scene and elsewhere in the province.

Filming in Vancouver: Orlando Bloom, Amanda Seyfried, Freida Pinto, Grace Park, and more

Orlando Bloom, who was here filming Needle in a Timestack, is one of several stars who recently breezed through Vancouver.

As the weather has been heating up, so is film and TV production activity in town.

To say there’s a lot going this week is an understatement. There’s a frenzy of feature films coming and going, plus some TV series starting up.

It’s no wonder that it’s so busy: British Columbia logged a record year for film and TV productions in 2017-2018, with $3.4 billion spent. Not too shabby at all.

So with all that in mind, here’s a quick overview of what’s going on in Vancouver’s ever-hectic screen scene this week.

Summer’s on its way—and with it, so are a bunch of big and small screen productions.
