Summer’s on its way—and with it, so are a bunch of big and small screen productions.
Here’s a look at what film and TV projects are coming to Vancouver, including one starring a hometown boy (produced by another big-name hometown boy).
Production on the comedy feature film Good Boys will get underway in Vancouver on July 9 and continuing filming until August 23
Among the producers is Vancouver’s Seth Rogen (The Disaster Artist), and it will be directed by Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky (The Office), making their feature film directorial debut.
Vancouver child star Jacob Tremblay (Room) will play the leader of a group of 12-year-old boys who skip school one day to embark upon a series of bad decisions.
Tremblay has shot a number of feature films in his hometown, including the 2017 family drama Wonder and most recently The Predator (scheduled for release on September 18).
The rest of the cast has yet to be announced.
But there’s quite a wait to see this film on the big screen—it’s not slated for release until August 16, 2019.
Another feature film coming this way this summer is Love and Oatmeal, which will shoot here from June 4 to 29.
Directed by Peter Sattler (Camp X-Ray), this drama chronicles what happens when a twentysomething writer, played by Ben Platt (Pitch Perfect), who wants to move to Paris. But when his father dies, he’s faced with the prospect of having to give up his dreams as he has to temporarily care for his mentally ill sister.
The cast also includes Lola Kirke (Gone Girl).
Meanwhile, the drama feature 2 Hearts, directed by Lance Hool (One Man’s Hero), will shoot in town from June 14 to July 28.
Details haven’t been released about this project yet so we’ll have to wait to see who is cast.
Magic will also be coming back to enliven the streets of Vancouver.
The Magicians, that is, will be back to shoot 13 episodes for Season 4 on June 11 and will continue until November 9.
The series, based on the novel series by Lev Grossman, follows Quentin Coldwater (Jason Ralph) and his friends as they develop their magical powers and use to struggle against threatening forces.
However, by the Season 3 finale, their efforts to restore magic to the world only partially succeeded, and resulted in limited access.
We’ll have to wait to see what lies ahead in Season 4, which premieres in 2019.
The cast has also included Stella Maeve, Olivia Taylor Dudley, Hale Appleman, Arjun Gupta, Summer Bishil, Rick Worthy, Jade Tailor, Brittany Curran, and Trevor Einhorn.
Well, with those on the horizon in addition to all the ones we’ve previous mentioned, there’s plenty to look forward and lots that’ll be keeping film crews busy around town this summer.
