George Takei is coming to town for a book signing.

The actor rose to fame as Lieutenant Sulu in the original Star Trek. Over the years he’s become an LGBTQ activist, social media influencer (Mashable named Takei the #1 most-influential person on Facebook) and author. His latest book is the graphic memoir They Called Us Enemy. As part of a promotional tour, he’ll sign copies at the Indigo Robson (1033 Robson St.) on Sept 3 at 7 p.m.

The Klingons Next Door: Inside the Vancouver Trekkie Convention

Watch out Kitsilano:  There’s a Klingon in your midst.  Gwynyth Walsh, who played the nasty Klingon B’Etor in the Star Trek: The Next Generation series currently calls Kits home.   And her partner in crime on the TV show, sister Lursa, is played by another longtime Vancouver resident, Barbara March.  Who knew BC was so Klingon friendly?

These bits of trivia and more I learned after popping into the Vancouver Star Trek convention, held downtown over the weekend.   The ritzy ballrooms of the Sheraton Wall Centre were infested with Klingons, Vulcans and Orion slave girls.  If you’ve ever seen the documentary Trekkies, you probably know what I’m talking about: lots of really obsessed (and really nice and maybe a bit nerdy) people playing out their inner Star Trek fantasies.

Official Star Trek Convention in Vancouver – Ticket Giveaway!

Join celebrity guests and fellow fans in honoring Gene Roddenberry’s enduring legacy of a positive future for mankind as Creation Entertainment brings The Official STAR TREK Convention: The Celebration of the 45th Anniversary to Vancouver June 10-12, at the Sheraton Vancouver Wall Centre.

This Vancouver weekend will feature a fantastic array of Star Trek stars, non-stop events, parties, contests, panels, music, performances, autographing, photo ops and some amazing extra surprises! There will be a live appearance of representatives of The Klingon Empire: Gowron and Martok and The Duras Sisters! The Klingons, after an extended period of talks and as yet unexplained disappearances of human negotiators, have agreed to appear at this convention provided they are treated with honor and dignity.

We have 5 pairs of General Admission tickets to give away. To be eligible just post a comment below telling us which Star Trek character is your favourite.
