Spring is officially here and the first signs of cherry blossoms in Vancouver are beginning to appear! The Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival (VCBF) is the city’s signature springtime event, waking the city up from winter hibernation with an explosion of some 41,000 blossoming cherry trees.

With bright, cheerful blossoms are a welcome reminder that the long, cold winter is finally nearing its end! (Especially now that the forecast of snow has been removed from the 7-day Vancouver weather forecast).

The Cherry Blossom Festival officially kicks off this April and there are several events to celebrate the occasion. Take a look at some of the highlights below from the upcoming 2018 Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival…

They say patience is a virtue, and if you are an avid fan of spring flowers and blossom viewing, this year’s unusually long, cold, snowy winter has certainly tested your patience. But, dare I say the wait is over!  Snowdrops are dropping, daffodils are dazzling, and the promise of new growth and regeneration is in the air.  Congratulations – we made it! Our beloved cherry blossoms and spring flowers are returning with a delightful vengeance.

The Best Places to see Cherry Blossoms in Vancouver

As the rainy season comes to an end, it seems like the whole city is celebrating by coming into bloom with beautiful, white, puffy flowers. Amazingly, there are over 2,100 locations in Vancouver that host cheerful cherry blossom trees, lighting up the streets and painting neighbourhoods in awash of colours from a blush of pink to pure snow white.

But, if you’re on the hunt for the perfect place to see cherry blossoms in Vancouver for your next photo-op, check out the list below and get your camera ready. While the flowers still look amazing on cloudy days, it’s always best to go when the clouds are gone and the sun is shining. Pink blossoms and blue skies just go together!

5 Can’t-Miss Events at the 2016 Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival

Days are getting longer. Rains are giving way to blue skies. On city streets, pink and white buds are starting to appear on branches that have been bare all winter.

All of which can only mean one thing: the Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival is right around the corner. Each spring, some 40,000 ornamental cherry trees planted along the streets of Vancouver burst into vivid colour. This year, the seasonal spectacle is being commemorated with more than three weeks of cherry-themed concerts, fairs, bike rides and even barges, March 24-April 17.

Here’s a look at 5 can’t-miss events for the 2016 Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival:

Get down at the Cherry Jam Downtown ConcertThe festival kicks off with a free lunchtime concert in the heart of downtown at the Burrard SkyTrain station. Find a spot under the blossoms and watch as an international lineup offers an ode to the season. Blossom Barge coming to Vancouver this April

It’s already feeling like Spring is in the air with the last few days of sunny, warm weather. So, it’s no surprise that news about the upcoming 10th Anniversary of the Cherry Blossom Festival is starting to hit local blogs. There are now only two months left until the unofficial start of Springtime in Vancouver!

New this year, the 2016 Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival has announced that they will be creating a Blossom Barge, a multi-day floating spectacle that will have 40 beautiful cherry blossoms on the last place you’d expect them to be, in the sea!
