1) Pit For Your Supper at the Irish Heather: Sept 12.; Sept. 19; Sept. 26
Plenty of Vancouver foodies pony up $16 to dine at the Irish Heather’s legendary Long Table Series, featuring roasts ranging from suckling pig to roast beef and Yorkshire pudding. If you’re willing to roll up your sleeves and help pit seasonal fruit for two hours, you can eat and drink for free Wednesdays throughout September. Sign up here.

2) Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup, Sept. 15-23
Every summer we lounge, socialize and picnic on Vancouver beaches. And every September, upstanding citizens help clean up. The annual Shoreline Cleanup, organized by the Vancouver Aquarium and WWF, is a great way to give back and make friends. 10 Free Things To Do in Vancouver in August

It’s the last month of summer: the glory days when beach-bronzed Vancouverites want to stay outside and take advantage of the sunny weather and all the fun that’s happening about town.

Many of us have already used our entertainment budget on a summer getaway. But no matter. If you know where to look, outdoor summer fun is free to attend.

From sunset yoga to water parks and the annual Vancouver Chinatown Festival, here are ten free things to get involved in this weekend, and the remaining days of August.

1) KitsFest Sports and Wellness Festival, Kitsilano Beach, August 10-12
KitsFest is a free, family-friendly, beachfront version of the Summer Olympics. Cheer as BC adults and kids compete in beach tennis, volleyball and basketball. The Kids’ Zone features an obstacle course, face painting and a vintage VPD police car. Adults can expect DJs and onsite catering from Boathouse, Chronic Tacos and more, in addition to the sweaty showdown.

2) 13th Annual Vancouver Chinatown Festival, Columbia & Keefer Street, August 11-12
Perhaps you already know how to train a dragon. Here’s how to greet one: “Hello Dragon, Ni Hao.” This salutation also happens to be the theme of the 13th annual Vancouver Chinatown Festival that takes place in Chinatown at Columbia and Keefer Street. Continue reading:

Top August Long Weekend Events in Vancouver

Sticking around for the August Long Weekend, August 4-6? I don’t blame you. In addition to the obvious options, like beach time, there’s so much action happening in Vancouver this weekend, a staycation is an awesome decision.

Here are six August Long Weekend events to get excited about.

1) Honda Celebration of Light Fireworks, August 4
It’s the last night of this legendary, sparkly Vancouver summer event. Vietnam, Brazil and Italy are in competition for best pyrotechnics. Only Italy has yet to get down to explosive business. At 10pm August 4, the skies over English Bay will twinkle with thousands of colourful lights. Find details on the best places to watch the fireworks here.
