Get Your Fill of Fall Comfort Food at Yew’s American Thanksgiving Dinner, Nov. 22

Canadian Thanksgiving has come and gone, but American Thanksgiving goes down this Thursday, Nov. 22. For Canadians in need of a second helping of turkey, or American expats short on time, swanky Yew Restaurant + Bar perched at treetop level in the downtown Four Seasons Vancouver Hotel has an enticing American Thanksgiving menu.

On Nov. 22, Yew restaurant will serve a fancy, 3-course Thanksgiving Dinner for $45 per head. As a new mom who’s been planning on baking a pumpkin cake for two weeks now, and still hasn’t gotten around to it, the menu is really appealing. My inner Martha Stewart is, as Yew suggests, taking a break this year.

The menu features enhanced classics like slow cooked turkey breast, stuffing, brussels sprouts, maple cranberries and buttermilk mashed potatoes. Turkey dinner seconds are only $10 more. And for those who aren’t into the bird, Yew is also serving arctic char with potato hash and balsamic mushrooms (pictured above). Perhaps the desserts (pumpkin pie with Nutella ice cream and salted caramel popcorn, for example) are the real draw.

Browse the full menu after the jump, with a gratuitous dessert glamour shot. Continue reading:

Jersey Boys coming to Vancouver this fall: Get tix now

It’s a success story worthy of American Idol.  Four nobodies from Newark, New Jersey, form a rock band and – in a career that spans decades and features dozens of hummable hits, everything from Walk Like a Man to Oh, What a Night – end up selling 175 million records.

The amazing tale of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, told in the runaway hit musical Jersey Boys, has won over audiences around the world.  And now it’s coming to Vancouver.

Jersey Boys will be at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre from Sept. 5-Sept. 23.  The performances remain months away and online ticketing hasn’t started yet.  But . . . there is a way you can get tickets now. Continue reading:

An Insider’s Guide to the Perfect Christmas Day…

This guest post is brought to you by Tourism Vancouver’s own Kathy Nicolay. Coordinator of the Be A Host program, Kathy works with local “hosts” to assist in bringing their national or international conferences to Vancouver.

Christmas in Vancouver is truly a magical time of the year. Natives of Vancouver know that the chance of being treated to a white Christmas (except on the ski hills!) is rare but numerous festive activities are guaranteed to put you in the holiday spirit. Putting aside a night to view the Christmas lights of Vancouver has been an annual pilgrimage since I was a little girl. The days of the magical Woodward’s windows and Santa’s Toyland at Eaton’s may be gone but I highly recommend taking a trip to the city to see the splendor of the glitter, fun, and magic of Christmas in Vancouver.

Traditionally Christmas is a time when many charities make the most of their fundraising campaigns. By making a donation at any of these holiday events, you have the opportunity to give back at this special time of the year. Here are just a few of my favourite ways to spread the holiday cheer:
