Like crimson coloured leaves, pumpkin spice lattes and rainy days, the quest to find the perfect pumpkin is a treasured fall ritual. Dipping temperatures and shorter days can only mean one thing. Halloween is just around the corner. Consequently, it is time for the annual trek to the local pumpkin patch. This year I decided to don my gumboots and head to Southlands Heritage Farm.

Pumpkin pie. Jack’o’lanterns. Pumpkin spiced lattes. Giant pumpkins. Pumpkin martinis. The month of the pumpkin is here. Last year Miss 604 reported on the best pumpkin patches to visit, this year I’m sharing some of the best pumpkin events in the Lower Mainland.

Whether you like to carve it up for your front step on Halloween, marvel at giant pumpkins, see little kids dressed as a pumpkin or eat it in pie/cheesecake/sugarbun format there are a number of events geared toward pumpkin lovers of all ilk this month. The air is crisp, acorns spot the sidewalks and any foliage that can turn from green to red is well on its way. With warm pumpkin-spiced beverages in hand, what better seasonal activity is there for Thanksgiving and Halloween than heading out to a local pumpkin patch to pick out some those bright orange bulbs. Grab your Thanksgiving produce at the final Vancouver Farmers Markets


It’s soon Thanksgiving and it’s also (oh yeah) pumpkin and decorative gourd season. Pumpkin patches are a bit of a trek, but the Vancouver Farmers Markets in the West End, Kits and Trout Lake, which are open for another two weekends, are not. Also, do you really want to make a soporific footslog to the grocery store to shop for the big meal when it’s way more festive to get out in that crisp October breeze and frolic with local farmers? I thought not.
