April is all about Game of Thrones (and Throne of Games) in Vancouver

The Bay Area company behind a sexy, flame-throwing live version of Game of Thrones is back this weekend. And if that’s not enough for fans of the hit HBO show, a Vancouver improv company is also bringing winter back with a new edition of its improv comedy show, Throne of Games.

This latest incarnation of the popular live burlesque/circus Game of Thrones show from the San Francisco’s Tourettes Without Regrets is back for its third year at the Rio Theatre (1660 E. Broadway at Commercial). This latest edition is entitled Live: Hodor Strikes Back, and like previous instalments, the show promises sexy debauchery, circus acts and fire dancing.

Audience participation is a big element (costumes encouraged and appreciated!), and the cast features members of Fou Fou Ha, Tourettes Without Regrets, and some local talent. It runs for two nights only, April 1 and 2. Show is at 8 p.m. and tickets are $20 at riotheatre.ca, $25 at the door.

Meanwhile, the cast behind Throne and Games – A Chance of Snow is all local. Also a sequel, this is a follow-up to Vancouver Theatre Sports League’s  2015 hit , Throne and Games – Laughter is Coming. According to the media release, this latest edition of the improv comedy show “is embarking on speculative, uncharted territory much like HBO’s popular TV series.” We take that as a reference to the fact that Season Six, which beings airing April 24, is the first to diverge from the popular series of fantasy novels by author George RR Martin, and to include original content not in the books.

Throne and Games – A Chance of Snow runs every Thursday, Friday and Saturday evening at 7:30 p.m. April 7 – May 28 at The Improv Centre on Granville Island (1502 Duranleau St.). Tickets are $10 (student/senior) or $15/adult and on sale at vtsl.com.
