The Vancouver Eastside 10km is More Than a Footrace

The fourth annual Vancouver Eastside 10km is happening this Saturday, September 17th, and all runners of all shapes and abilities are invited to participate in this run.

In a Q&A interview, race director Clif Cunningham gives an overview of the event.

Q: Clif, how is your event different from others?

A: (The) route, competition, calendar and cause. Our 10k route was an area that not most  people ran, that was swept under the mat. We love the Eastside and wanted to show it in a positive light. The community also sees the event, the positivity it creates and recall healthy times in their lives. Our event features what we say “competers and completers”, the opportunity to run alongside our best athletes from our province and nation, in the provincial 10k championship. The September calendar was missing a nice sized competitive 10k. We work with charities that are embedded in the Eastside, making a daily impact with the people of our community, and  your fundraising support goes directly to support our community.

Q: What can runners expect from participating?

A: Great value. Canada Running Series events always provide a safe and accurate route. Our route has been certified by Athletics Canada and RockDoc will be there at the finish line. We have great shirts for every registration and our signature dog-tag medal. When you exit the finish chute, we have some refreshments for you too! Don’t be late, our races almost always start on time, when we say 8:30, we mean it!

(Also) Eastside 10k follows the environmentally responsible charter of the Council for Responsible Sport that includes measures like striving for zero waste, measuring impacts, accessibility, youth encouragement, supporting local business and working with our community. Our Scotiabank Vancouver Half-Marathon and 5k was the first event in Canada to receive a Gold Certification, and Eastside 10k is on track to become the second.
