A magical Valentine’s Day starts with a stroll around Stanley Park.

1. Stroll hand-in-hand along the Instagram-worthy seawall, starting at the downtown waterfront and circling around Stanley Park, Third Beach and English Bay. Bring your camera – there are plenty of sites to see (and plenty of selfies to snap) en route.

2. Craft a feast at The Dirty Apron, which offers themed cooking classes throughout the year. Chef instructors will walk you through each course step-by-step, after which you’ll prepare and plate each dish à deux. Upon completing a course, everyone gathers around the communal dining table to sample their creations with a glass of wine.

3. Explore the stars together at the HR MacMillan Space Centre’s Star Theater, which takes audiences on daily journeys across the galaxy. On Saturday nights, guests can enter the nearby observatory for a bout of stargazing guided by knowledgeable staff (admission by donation).

4. Take a horse-drawn carriage ride in Stanley Park, cozied up under a warm blanket with your sweetie and a steaming cup of hot chocolate. Celebrating a special occasion (like Valentine’s Day)? Stanley Park Horse-drawn Tours offers an elaborate Cinderella Pumpkin Coach that ensures you two will be the belles of the ball.

5. Fill a picnic basket with goodies and settle on the sand at English Bay. Arrive in time for sunset and you’ll both be treated to a spectacular (and free!) evening show.

6. Go ice skating at Robson Square’s wintertime ice rink (open through end of February). Entry is free, and skate rentals cost $4.

7. Wander amidst the delicate foliage and symbolic sculptures at tranquil Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden. The serene space perfectly harmonizes rock, water, earth and architecture, and couples will find plenty of romantic spaces – covered pathways, pavilions and courtyards – to sneak a smooch.

8. Snowshoe or walk amongst a forest of fir and spruce lining Blue Grouse Lake at Grouse Mountain. Starting at dusk, the path is illuminated by thousands of sparkling lights that cast a sultry glow over the peak. Afterward, indulge in a chocolate, cheese and broth fondue.

Yuk it up at Vancouver TheatreSports League.

9. The couple who laughs together, stays together – so take in a show at Vancouver TheatreSports League and prepare to bust a gut. The improv troupe stages hilarious Love Day escapades around Valentine’s Day.

10. Just 20 minutes outside Vancouver is the sprawling and scenic University of British Columbia campus, which doubled as Washington State University in Fifty Shades of Grey. Here, you and your SO can browse weird and wonderful artefacts at the Beaty Biodiversity Museum; steal a kiss atop the Greenheart TreeWalk; or take part in a traditional Japanese tea ceremony at the Nitobe Memorial Garden.

Take your honey on a spin around False Creek in a mini-ferry.

11. Take to the waters of False Creek and tour the city by mini-ferry. The Aquabus and False Creek Ferries make regular loops around the creek, stopping at Granville Island, Olympic Village, Vanier Park and other points of interest along the way.

12. Drive to Squamish and ascend the Sea to Sky Gondola in a cozy gondola. Once up top, share a special moment with your sweetie as you take in the surrounding snow-capped forests and alpine peaks overlooking stunning vistas.

13. Indulge in a couples’ treatment at CHI, the Spa at the Shangri-La Hotel. The luxurious sanctuary offers holistic treatments that include footbaths, tea service and aromatic baths or steams. You and your plus-one will emerge feeling rejuvenated, relaxed and oh-so-romantic.

14. Hike up Quarry Rock in Deep Cove, an easy 45-minute trek amidst lush forest. Once at the summit, you’ll be treated to stunning views of Indian Arm and dramatic mountainscape. Don’t forget to indulge in a post-hike treat at Honey Doughnuts (famously a favourite of Kate Winslet).

Flights of fancy at The Settlement Building.

15. Sample wine or beer flights in an elegantly refurbished warehouse at The Settlement Building. The collective houses Vancouver Urban Winery, Postmark Brewing, and Belgard Kitchen, offering B.C. wines, craft beer and delicious bites all in one gorgeous space.

16. Pull out your ballgowns and tails for an elegant evening at the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. Snuggle up to your SO in the opulent Orpheum Theatre while the incredible acoustics amplify the soul-raising sounds of haunting classical music, spiffy showtunes or modern hits.
