Maggie May Morris brings her band Sunbathe to Vancouver for the Rickshaw Theatre’s 9th anniversary party.
While many of the city’s live music fans are still lamenting the recent closure of rock club the Cobalt, two other local venues are celebrating their staying power.
On Friday, July 6, Mount Pleasant’s the Biltmore Cabaret celebrates 10 years of hosting many of the most celebrated names in indie-rock, not to mention its dance-filled weekend DJ shows. And on July 13, the mighty Rickshaw Theatre pops the cork on nine years of presenting ear-damaging punk and metal shows, as well as some of the best in indie-rock, pop, and more, along with a wide variety of other shows and events.

The Biltmore Cabaret (2755 Prince Edward) is kicking it out with members of local bands forming ad hoc outfits to play this historic night. The Zolas, jo passed, ACTORS, Fake Shark, Twin River + Louise Burns Music, Horsepowar, Jody Glenham, and Ackee Tecumseh (Joshua Tecumseh) will all participate in one form or another. Meanwhile, over at the Rickshaw, the Mad Alchemy Liquid Light Show will cast a lava-lamp-like glow over the proceedings. Acts include Vancouver’s Art d’Ecco (neo-glam) and The Intelligence Service (dark-synth psych-punk), as well as Portland’s Sunbathe (fuzzy pop) and Victoria’s Cartoon Lizard (psychedelic pop).
