This week’s roundup of what’s going on in Vancouver’s screen scene looks ahead to fall, not to mention winter.

On that last point, a TV series set in a future Earth covered by perpetual winter kicks off production.

Upcoming is a TV series that will adapt a podcast about a fictional investigation into a paranormal incident, while a dystopian alternate history series is set to come back for a fourth season of filming.

Right off the bat, the sci-fi thriller Snowpiercer starts shooting Season 1 today (August 20) and continues until December 22, with production based in Langley.

The pilot was shot in Vancouver in August and September 2017 and was greenlit earlier this year to become full-fledged series.

This home-screen adaptation of Bong Joon-ho’s 2013 film (which, in turn, was based on the 1982 French graphic novel Le Transperceneige) follows the struggles of the last surviving humans who live on a nonstop train that circles the world a few years after a new Ice Age has overtaken the world.

Jennifer Connelly and Daveed Diggs lead a cast that includes Annalise Basso, Manoj Sood, Mickey Sumner, Susan Park, Sasha Frolova, Katie McGuinness, Alison Wright, Sam Otto, Roberto Urbina, Sheila Vand, Lena Hall, Happy Anderson, Iddo Goldberg, and Steven Ogg.

Among the new series that are slated to shoot in Vancouver this fall, one is based upon a popular podcast about investigative journalism and the paranormal that will be adapted into a TV series.

Limetown will shoot in Vancouver from September 26 to December 7, with production based in Burnaby.

The podcast series, which gained a cult following, told the fictional tale of a journalist’s research into over 300 people who mysteriously disappear from a Tennessee neuroscience facility.

The cast hasn’t been announced yet.

The Man in the High Castle

A TV series coming back to town is The Man in the High Castle, which shoots Season 4 from September 17 to February 28, 2019, with production based in Burnaby.

Based on the novel by Philip K. Dick, the series explores what could have been if Japan and Germany won the Second World War.
