Looking for a party this weekend—maybe something outside?
If so, you have a couple of different options: an electronica freakout, and an afternoon aimed at families.
On Sat., Aug. 25, the Monstercat Compound Block Party will fill the sky over Railtown with bouncy electro-dance tunes. And the next day, Aug. 26, the Vancouver East Cultural Centre hosts an outdoor/indoor party with Brasstronaut, Peach Pyramid and Mark Mills.
Let’s take a look at the two parties, shall we.
Monstercat Compound Block Party—Taking place in Railtown, not far from downtown, Monstercat Compound Block Party returns after a successful inaugural event last year. New this year is a second stage. Attendees can expect performances from Vicetone, Dwilly, Bishu, Tails, and Conro. Who, you ask? They’re all electronica artists signed to Vancouver’s Monstercat label. In addition to the live performances, Monstercat Compound features workshops, video games, art, merch, carnival games, and a food truck. RSVP here.
When: Saturday, Aug 25, from 2-9 p.m.
Where: 380 Railway St.
Admission: Free of charge with RSVP; VIP tickets will also be made available for purchase.
Soft Cedar & The Cultch Present: Brasstronaut, Peach Pyramid and Mark Mills—An all-ages rock show with artisans, food trucks and a chill-out room for when and if things get too intense. The event is the braindchild of Soft Cedar, a series that presents local musicians in soft-seat theatres. Murdoch and Robinson created the series specifically to bring more music to The Cultch’s stages. The Aug. 26 party includes Brasstronaut, an adventurous Vancouver outfit that likes to play around with genres such as rock, pop, electronic, jazz, Afrobeat and disco, and Victoria indie-pop act Peach Pyramid (singer/songwriter Jen Severtson). DJ Mark Mills will keep the kids and their handlers entertained between sets.
When: Aug 26 from 1-5 p.m.
Where: The Cultch
Tickets: $20/10 for children 12 and under at thecultch.com
