If you’ve already checked out Canyon Lights at the Capilano Suspension Bridge and you’ve got a craving for more fabulous light displays, Lafarge Lake in nearby Coquitlam is not going to disappoint. With these long, dark evenings of winter we need all the help we can get to make the nighttime shine!

Billed as Metro Vancouver’s largest, free outdoor light display, Lights at Lafarge is made up of hundreds of thousands of twinkling lights, will wrap itself entirely around the lake, taking you on a 1.2-kilometre loop. The lights are set up outside, so make sure to dress for the weather!

The dazzling light displays that encircle the 1.2 km Lafarge Lake loop will be on every evening from dusk – approx. 4:30 p.m. They are designed into more than 10 zones including a winter lights entry gate, 90-foot caterpillar, woodland garden, outdoor dining table illuminated by a chandelier, fantasy forest with an elfin tree house, lighted woodland creatures, illuminated maple leafs, salmon, floating lotus flowers and giant-sized mushrooms, beehive and flowers.

Visitors can enjoy the festive lights display in the memorable setting of Lafarge Lake in Coquitlam all season long:

Saturday, Nov. 24 – Sunday, Jan. 20 from dusk until 11 p.m. nightly and through midnight New Year’s Eve.

There will be a concession on-site Thursdays to Sundays, 4 – 10 p.m. from Nov. 25 through Jan. 13. It will be located in Parking Lot D, near the maple leaf gazebo on the north side of the lake.

Keep an eye on the Coquitlam Parks and Recreation website for some of the free activities that will be happening during the light display, including a parade on Friday, November 30, Ugly Sweater Night on Saturday, Dec 1, and Jingle Bells Night on Friday, December 21.

Don’t forget to dress for the dark and for the weather! Late November can bring us rain, wind and snow – make sure you are dressed accordingly. The event takes place entirely outside, so be sure to have warm clothing and waterproof, durable footwear.

It’s easy to get to Lafarge Lake, which is located just steps away from Lafarge Lake-Douglas Skytrain Station. Alternatively, you can drive to Coquitlam (it’s about 45 minutes from Downtown Vancouver) and park off Trevor Wingrove Way.
