Filming in Vancouver: Jessica Biel in Limetown, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, and Deadly Class

Jessica Biel will take on the lead role in Limetown.

As we’ve been noting over the past few weeks, a number of productions have been winding up just before the holiday season.

This week continues that trend, with two TV series—both based on comic books—finishing up their first season.

However, there is one new TV series that goes against this grain is launching into production.

And this mystery thriller TV series starting up is not only based on a podcast that topped the charts, but it’s also bringing some high-wattage star power with it.

Curious and curiouser—mystery, indeed.

To resolve this mysteriousness, we’ll see you on the other side of the jump for this week’s roundup of what’s coming and going from Vancouver’s screen scene.

So with all that preamble out of the way, first things first.

Production on 10 episodes for the first season of the mystery thriller Limetown gets underway today (December 3) and runs until March 8.

Although it was originally slated to start filming back on September 26, it was later rescheduled.

This small-screen adaptation by Facebook of the popular sci-fi podcast (which was released in 2015) revolves around an investigation that radio journalist Lia Haddock launches into the inexplicable disappearance of over 300 people from a neuroscience research facility in Tennessee.

Haddock will be played by none other than Jessica Biel (The Sinner), who is also an executive producer of the show.

But with Biel in town, could that mean that her husband, Justin Timberlake, will be making an appearance in Vancouver too? Or possibly even a guest spot on the series?

Keep your eyes peeled, true Biel-ievers.

Other cast members are yet to be revealed and the release date is yet to be announced.

Kiernan Shipka

Meanwhile, two notable new TV series that are adaptations of comic books are finishing up this week.

The supernatural horror The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina completes production on 10 episodes for Season 1 on Wednesday (December 5). The series began shooting back on March 19.

Like its sibling series Riverdale, this take on Archie Comics content recasts Sabrina the Teenage Witch in a darker tone than the original material or the TV series, starring Melissa Joan Hart, that ran from 1996 to 2003.

In this version, Sabrina Spellman, played by Kiernan Shipka, struggles to reconcile her part-mortal, part-witch existence while she tries to protect herself and her family from evil forces and beings.

Chance Perdomo

Cast members include Ross Lynch, Lucy Davis, Chance Perdomo, Michelle Gomez, Jaz Sinclair, and Miranda Otto.

Just in time for Halloween, Season 1 launched on October 26 and a holiday special will be released on December 14.

Meanwhile, there’s more good news for fans as Season 2 isn’t all that far off—it’s scheduled to be released on April 5.

And elsewhere in the city, school’s out for Deadly Class, with the production calling it a wrap on Season 1 on Thursday (December 6).

The action-thriller series started shooting on August 24, after filming the pilot in November and December last year.

Michel Duval and Benjamin Wadsworth in Deadly Class

Based on the Image Comics graphic novel, the series is set amid 1980s counterculture, in which street teen Marcus (Benjamin Wadsworth) is recruited by the Kings Dominion, an exclusive academy that trains students from all the top families of the world to become assassins.

The cast also includes Benedict Wong, Lana Condor, María Gabriela de Faría, Michel Duval, Luke Tennie, and Liam James.

In addition, Ryan Robbins, Siobhan Williams, David Zayas, Taylor Hickson, and Kelcey Mawema will play recurring characters.

And even hardcore punkster Henry Rollins is in the mix—so you know things are gonna rock.

The good news is that there’s not much time left before the series debuts: SyFy announced that the premiere date is on January 16.

To whet your appetite, here’s the trailer for the show.

And on that cheerful note, we’ll call it a wrap ourselves here.

But check back in again with us for more on what’s happening here on the streets of Hollywood North as we head further into the holiday season and hurtle towards the new year.
