A few years ago, it seemed like all music festivals in Vancouver had come to a sad end. Squamish Music Festival was cancelled, Pemberton Festival went the same way. Then, SKOOKUM Music Festival was announced and took over Stanley Park in an amazing spectacle of big name music acts, artists, food, and more.
For 2019, SKOOKUM has announced that they are on hiatus: “Following a successful launch, work is already underway to bring SKOOKUM back as an annual festival starting in 2020.“
So, what’s a music festival lover supposed to do for 2019? Luckily, a new festival has just been announced for July 2019 in Squamish. Introducing: the Constellation Festival.
The festival will take place just a 45 minute drive from Downtown Vancouver at Hendrickson Field from July 26-28, 2019 amidst the stunning backdrop of the Squamish Chief.
The festival line-up will be announced on March 5 and general weekend passes will be released on March 8, 2019. Things are looking good after the local government awarded the organizers with a $125,000 grant from Creative BC.
The official website promises that the Squamish Constellation Festival will have:
– 3 days of bands, entertainers and visual artists
– A VIP area and packages
– Genres that will include alt-pop, folk, indie, alt-rock, singer-songwriter, funk/soul, brass/big bands, and family acts
– Free entry to children 12 and under
– Strong representation of female, indigenous, and LGBTQ+ artists
– Blanket-style seating with separate dancing areas
– Interactive community legacy art creation
– A marketplace
– Site-wide liquor license, craft beer, cocktail and wine lounges
– Culinary delights
While July still seems a long ways away, it’s never too early to start planning summer adventures! More information about the Squamish Constellation Festival will be revealed as we get closer to July.
