Vancouver Convention Centre Celebrates Canada Day with Family-Friendly Open House

You’re invited! The Vancouver Convention Centre is once again hosting its community Open House on Canada’s birthday, July 1, 2019. This year, the event will be held in the West building’s massive exhibition levels, and feature lots of family-friendly activities.

Home to incredible events including Women Deliver 2019 and the annual TED Conference, the world’s only double LEED Platinum-certified convention centre has welcomed delegates from across the world through its doors and has seen its exhibition halls transformed into everything from broadcast studios during the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, an elegant banquet dinner to a tremendous dinosaur park.

From 11 am to 5 pm, learn about history of the facility , and experience a variety of family-friendly activities. Highlights include:

Free indoor family-friendly yoga with lululemon: lululemon will host two free indoor yoga sessions at 11:30 am and 1:30 pm. Guests are encouraged to bring mats; limited supply provided.

Cooking with our culinary team: The Convention Centre’s award-winning culinary team will be doing live cooking demonstrations at 12:30 pm and 2:30 pm (and sampling their creations!)

Celebrate the 10th anniversary of our West building: This year marks the 10th anniversary of our iconic West building, and we have three activities to help celebrate!

  • Convention Quest Scavenger Hunt – Learn about what we do and the history of our facility with Convention Quest in the Exhibition Hall
  • 10th Anniversary Tattoos – Mark our country’s birthday in style with a custom Canada Day at the Convention Centre airbrush tattoo
  • The Big 10 – Visit our life-size ‘10’ and share your favourite memories from our facility and your bright ideas for our future

 

Green Scene: Learn about the Convention Centre’s comprehensive sustainability program while enjoying activities like our recycling game and more.

Picture Yourself! Don’t miss these amazing opportunities to take your photo with:

  • A photo station putting you in the centre of some of the special spaces in and around our facility; and
  • Our larger than life #VanConventions installation.

 

Marine Connection: Learn about the Convention Centre’s thriving marine habitat and enjoy unique activities hosted by Ocean Wise, as well as a children’s arts and crafts zone.

Cauldron Lighting: This majestic 2010 legacy will be re-lit from 12 pm to 2 pm to celebrate Canada’s birthday.

Brew with a View: From 11 am to 11 pm, enjoy delicious, family-friendly fare and beautiful mountain and harbour views on the facility’s licensed Pacific Terrace, home to Douglas Coupland’s Digital Orca. Food and beverage, including ice-cold beer and cider, will be available for purchase.

In addition to the Open House, the Vancouver Convention Centre is a Community Partner of Canada Day at Canada Place, where an exciting line-up of events is scheduled in the Convention Centre’s East building and the Jack Poole Plaza.
