Vancouver’s favourite travelling street party is back this August and September with three upcoming events that are free, licensed, and all ages!
Dust off your dancing shoes and get ready to have an amazing time courtesy of the Public Disco. These events work to connect participants through music and dancing in unique public spaces on August 10, 31, and September 29.
Unlike the disco parties of yesteryear, the public disco is a fun and funky all-ages good time in an outdoor public setting – so everyone is invited!
First started in 2017, the Public Disco was founded to create a space that celebrates queer identity, encourages vibrant self-expression, showcases a diverse array of artists and provides low barrier opportunities for the public to enjoy music and dancing side by side.
At its core, the Public Disco is all about love, happiness, expression, and acceptance. And, of course, some pretty groovy music for dancing.
First up, on August 10, 2019, the Public Disco Laneway series will be taking place in Mount Pleasant on 7 1/2 Lane & Manitoba Street. Part of the 2019 Mount Pleasant Street Party, the disco will kick off at 12 pm.
Later in August, the event takes a cabaret twist in “Alley Oop”, at 688 West Hastings Street with live music acts ranging from alternative folk to hip hop. Then in September, the disco is at Main & 1st as part of the New Forms Festival.
No matter which event you attend, know that you will have a rocking time!
For those 19+, Granville Island Brewery will be supplying you with some tasty suds. Each event will also feature delicious fare from local food trucks.
Aside from the Laneway series, the Public Disco also hosts several events around town, including a Pride special indoor/outdoor event that’s quickly coming up on August 3rd and 4th.
