Get Caffeinated at Vancouver’s 3rd Beanstock Coffee Festival

You may be sipping your first, third, or fifth coffee of the day as you’re reading this post. If so, there’s an event coming to Granville Island that will showcase the increasingly diverse and sustainable local coffee industry.

Vancouver, a city known for its vibrant coffee culture and many micro-roasters, is the ideal venue for a festival devoted to many people’s favourite caffeinated beverage.

From November 2-3, 2019, Performance Works (1218 Cartwright St.) on Granville Island will host Vancouver’s third Beanstock Coffee Festival.

The two-day event brings together all the coffee geeks in the city and from beyond to learn more about all the fabulous coffee that western Canada has to offer.

Beanstock features an impressive selection of independent micro-roasters, such as Pallet Coffee Roasters, Rocanini Coffee Roasters, Prototype Coffee, and House of Funk Brewing. Each day features roughly 15 different micro-roasters, each offering tastings of their best.

This year’s festival should be particularly exciting given third wave coffee’s pursuit of increasingly more sustainable and fair trade options. The production process for coffee has also been revolutionized, leading to significant quality improvements. Go to the festival to learn about industry trends, like single origin coffee and different brewing methods, like using a Chemex or Aeropress.

You can expect tons of coffee, in addition to craft beer, musical entertainment, and food. There will be an all day, multi-machine espresso bar; coffee for purchase; and a store selling all things coffee related.

General admission tickets are $30 plus taxes and processing fees on-line ($40 at the door). You reserve a 2.5 hour time slot for one of the two festival days (9am-11:30am, 12pm-2:30pm, 3:00pm-5:30pm – some are already sold out). A ticket includes unlimited coffee tastings, a reusable ceramic Beanstock mug, and two 100g roasted coffee samples.

There’s also the option of purchasing a weekend pass ($75 plus taxes and processing fees), which gets you full-day access to both November 2 and 3. In addition to the mug and unlimited coffee samples, you’ll also get premium samples in a special festival tote bag.

Further info and tickets are available on-line.
