Flamenco v Tap: Dawn of a New Grease

Get ready for a new version of Grease—flamenco-and-tap-style!

The Karen Flamenco dancers are teaming up with Troy McLaughlin’s tap crew for a flamenco vs. tap showdown in a new production of Grease. The show is Nov 1 & 2 at the Vancouver Playhouse (600 Hamilton St.. Find out more below.

In this new production, the Karen Flamenco troupe’s Pink Ladies and Troy McLaughlin’s tap-dancing T-birds square off in a new production of the musical. The flamenco dancers  will perform traditional flamenco dances to live flamenco guitar and the percussive footwork of both the tap-dancing T-birds and flamenco-ing Pink Ladies. Audience members are encouraged to sing along to the tunes.

About Karen Flamenco Dance Company:

Artistic director Karen Pithkely founded the company in 2009, ten years after opening the Karen Flamenco Dance Studio in the Mount Pleasant neighbourhood. Previous productions include West Side Story and Pinocchio. The company’s mandate is to tell familiar stories using flamenco dance and music.
